Deccan Cargo will be launched by May 2009

Gopitnath, founder of India’s first low-cost airline and charter business will launch a cargo airline ‘Deccan Cargo’ by May 2009. It is working on  hub-and-spoke model to provide connectivity among 60 industrial cities and major metros. It will initially use ATR and Turboprop aircrafts to bring cargo from smaller cities and will move the same with Airbus to metros and international destinations like Dubai, Hong Kong Singapore etc.,
Currently, Indian cargo logistics is dominated by Blue Dart, First Flight, TNT, Gati etc., It will be pitching against them, however there is huge demand, considering India has only 6 aircrafts against China’s 98 and 120 cargo aircrafts in Europe.
Gopinath has put a seed capital of Rs.1250 million and hired 140 people and many venture investors firms like IBM Venture will pick up stake

Hyderabad airport to get MRO facility

GMR Hyderabad Airport International and Malaysian Aerospace Engineering in 50:50 joint-venture to set up maintenance, repair and overhaul facility in Aerospace park at Rajiv Gandhi International airport. A new company in the name & style of MAS-GMR Aerospace Engineering Co Ltd has been formed to set up this facility. It will become operational by end of 2010 and can service 80 aircraft annually. It is being built specifically for Indian aircrafts in mind and provide base maintenance services and C-checks for Boeing 737 and Airbus A320. Indian airlines like Jet Airways and IndiGo can use this facility to fly abroad even for smaller work like peel of painting.

Duke Aviation to set up MRO facility in Nagpur

Duke Aviation, a company promoted by Duke Equity of Dubai has acquired 36 acres in Multimodal International Hub Airport in Nagpur and also received approval from Maharashtra Airport Development Corp. It will set up a maintenance, repair and overhaul facility with an investment of Rs. 7250 million. The company will align with any airlines and will be available for any one and will offer very low charges as much as $35 per man-hour to stay competitive. The project will be completed in 3 years.
