With global softening of ATF, Indian public sector oil companies have reduced the price of Aviation Fuel Turbine from Rs.29.15 a litre to Rs.27.10 a litre. This comes into effect from March 1, 2009. Since ATF forms 40-50% of operations cost of domestic airlines, many would expect a revision of fare in airlines. However, there are no indications from any airlines and they remained quiet for the last two downward revisions. {backbutton}

 Prices of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) sold to domestic airlines in metros have been slashed from 1st of February 2009. Airlines, which have been eagerly expecting this drop are yet to announce cheaper airfares.  They have been asking the govt. to classify the ATF to goods, to save tax revenue. However, Air India may drop prices unilaterally according to Mr.Praful Kumar, Civil Aviation minister.

FDI in Airlines likely to be opened after 10 years

 Civil Aviation minister, Mr. Praful Kumar, told reporters that the government may consider allowing FDI investment in domestic airlines. This will be a major policy change after holding it for more than 10 years.  With many analysts betting on growth in Asian aviation amidst the plunge globally, this move will be of interest to foreign airlines, particular to Singapore Airlines, Virgin Atlantic etc., who have eyeing India market for long.

Govt. announces policy shifts to accommodate aircraft request

The government of India has announced a policy statement that it will be able to requisition  aircraft(s) from any aircraft operator by an order from an officer not below the rank of Joint Secretary. By order, it can get any aircraft(s) at its disposal in the interest of public. The aircraft operator has to provide the aircraft along with required facilities like maintenance crew,  personnel and all other materials that will be necessary to operate the service.
